What's In a Name

LucyFiftyThree.

Where does it come from?

Some of you may know my darling little girl is named Lucy (and so appropriately if I do say so myself), but do you know why? I grew up a fan of Lucille Ball, Dick van Dyke and other superstars of the fifties watching black and white TV at the ripe age of 3. My mother will tell you, embarrassingly enough, I used to demand that I "want to watch the 'whites!'"

So when my husband and I found out we were expecting, we discussed a TON of names and agreed on next to nothing for a boy but immediately knew a girl would be Lucy. Not only do I have a stash of Lucille Ball collectibles that have been building since I was twelve, but my hubby's darling grandmother infamous for cheesecake and Italian Wedding Soup, is also a Lucy. How super convenient for me, right?

As for the rest, I've always been inspired by designs of the fifties, from sweetheart necklines to the full circle skirts and pedal pushers; many of my designs have a retro feel or inspiration. The classic polka dot print mixed with the sassy salsa-like ruffles of my signature dress, "I Love Lucy" is much like the story of Lucy meets Ricky. And so, Fifty Three is actually representative of a year: a year chosen to coincide with my darling's initials, LFT.

And there you have it.
